Alco Rsd5 by Angelus, Jerold [Paperback] $100.37 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The ALCO RSD5 was a dieselelectric locomotive of the road switcher type rated at 1,600 horsepower, that rode on a pair of threeaxle trucks, having a CC wheel arrangement. Basically an upgraded version of the earlier ALCO RSD4, and used in much the same manner as its fouraxle counterpart, the ALCO RS3. Though the sixmotor design allowed better tractive effort at lower speeds. As of 2006, there are only two of these locomotives known to be in existence. ExCNW #1689, owned by Gary Baloun, is currently in operation at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The other is the former Utah Railway 306 owned by Doyle McCormack, in Portland, Oregon. Alco S6 by Angelus, Jerold [Paperback] $78.07 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Alco S6 was a dieselelectric locomotive of the switcher type constructed by ALCO of Schenectady, New York; a total of 126 locomotives were built between May 1955 and December 1960. The S6 was a development of the earlier S5; instead of the 800 hp ALCO 251 engine on the previous locomotive, the S6 used a 251A or 251B engine rated at 900 horsepower. The locomotive rode on twoaxle AAR trucks, giving a BB wheel arrangement. A cowcalf version was produced exclusively for Oliver Iron Mining Company, who bought two: this was the SB8/SSB9. The freight train used to smash the DeLorean DMC12 time machine in Back to the Future Part III was pulled by two Alco S6 locomotives in Ventura County Railroad livery. Author: Angelus, Jerold Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 96 Publication Date: 2011/09/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.02 x 5.98 x 0.23 inches |

Alco Rsd15 by Yoan, Niek [Paperback] $89.22 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The ALCO RSD15 was a dieselelectric locomotive of the road switcher type built by ALCO of Schenectady, New York between August 1956 and June 1960, during which time 75 locomotives were produced. The RSD15 was powered by an ALCO 251 16cylinder fourcycle Vtype prime mover rated at 2,400 horsepower; it superseded the almost identical ALCO 244engined RSD7, and was catalogued alongside the similar but smaller 1,800 hp RSD12, powered by a 12cylinder 251model Vtype diesel engine. The locomotive rode on a pair of threeaxle Trimount trucks, in an AAR CC wheel arrangement, with all axles powered by General Electric model 752 traction motors. These trucks have an asymmetrical axle spacing due to the positioning of the traction motors. The sixmotor design allowed higher tractive effort at lower speeds than an otherwise similar fourmotor design. Author: Yoan, Niek Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 116 Publication Date: 2011/09/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.02 x 5.98 x 0.28 inches |

Alco 300 by Garfield, Norton Fausto [Paperback] $87.62 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The ALCO 300 was an early dieselelectric switcher locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company of Schenectady, New York between 1931 and 1938. Following purchase of the engine manufacturer McIntosh Seymour in 1929, ALCO built a 300 horsepower box cab locomotive. This was the #300, an ALCO demonstrator. The engine used was the Model 330 and GE electrical transmission was used. Another demonstrator #300 was built as an end cab switcher in July 1931 also using General Electric electrical equipment. This unit was sold to the Lehigh Valley Railroad as its #102. A subsequent 300 horsepower end cab switcher was sold to the Lehigh Valley as its #103 in December 1931. A McIntosh and Seymour Box cab Lehigh Valley #125 was rebuilt with an ALCO 330 engine in 1931 and then renumbered Lehigh Valley #101.
