NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE

  • ATHENAGORAS –“We cannot endure even to see a man put to death, though justly... We consider that to see a man put to death is much the same as killing him. Therefore, we have sworn away from such spectacles. We do not even look on, lest we might contract guilt and pollution. So how can we put people to death?”
  • ATISTOTLE –“We are what we repeatedly do.”
  • ATLOMO –“The liberal holds that he is true to the republic when he is  true to himself.”
  • ATMA UPANISHAD –“Subtler than the banyan seed, subtler than the tiniest grain, even subtler than the hundred thousandth part of a hair, this Self cannot be grasped, cannot be seen.”
  • ATMABODHA –“Like bubbles in water, the worlds arise from, exist in, and dissolve into the supreme Lord, who is the material cause and supporter of everything.”
  • ATMANANDA KRISHNA MENON –“Am I the body, senses or mind? No. If I claim to be anything, that must be with me wherever I go. Doing, perceiving, thinking and feeling do not go with me wherever I go. 'Knowing' alone is always with me. So I am knowingness of Consciousness alone. I am that always, and I am free. I can only be that which remains over when the object or active part is separated from the perceiver, perception or percept.”
  • AUDEN, W.H. –“Love is nothing to do with what you are expecting to get, it’s what you are expected to give – which is everything.”
  • AUDREY HEPBUM –“It is decided to love a person even with his faults, that’s not chance. That is choice.”
  • AUGHEY –“God brings men into deep waters, not to drown them, but to cleanse them.”
  • AUGUSTUS HARE –“Half the failures of this world arise from pulling in one's horse as he is leaping.”
  • AUNG SAN SUU KYI –“Human beings the world over need freedom and security that they may be able to realise their full potential... The only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom is freedom from fear.”

  • AUSONIUS –“Forgive many things in others, nothing in yourself.”
  • AUSONIUS- “If you are a terror to many, then beware of many.”
  • AUSONIUS –“Let the smith who made them wear the shackles which he did prepare.”
  • AUSTRALIAN TRAFFIC RULE –“Road sense is the offspring of courtesy and the parent of safety.”
  • AUTHOR UNKNOWN –“ Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow. May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.”
  • AUTHOR UNKNOWN –“There are always three sides to every story: your side, the other side, and the truth.”
  • AVATAR MEHER BABA –“Love is such that the lover needs no asking to do anything. By loving, your whole being will be changed and your life will end in freedom. The gift of love is a rare gift of God, and rarely is one capable of receiving it.”
  • AVATAR MEHER BABA –“The True Sage Divine love, with its fusion of the personal and the impersonal aspects is infinite in being and expression. Divine love makes us true to ourselves and to others and makes us live truly and honestly It is the solution to all our problems; it frees us from every kind of binding; purifies our hearts and glorifies our being.”
  • AVERY BRUNDAGE –“For too long the world has failed to recognise that the Olympic Games and the Olympics movement are about fine; athletics and fine art.”
  • AVESTA YASNA –“In the family may discipline overcome indiscipline, peace discord, charity miserliness, devotion arrogance, and the truth-spoken word the false spoken-word.”
  • AVESTA, YASNA –“And may the sovereign Good be ours! According as one desires bliss may one receive bliss Through Thy most far- seeing Spirit, 0 Lord, The wonders of the Good Mind which Thou wilt give as righteousness, With the joy of long life all the days!”
  • AVESTA, YASNA –“As the holy one I recognised thee, 0 Wise Lord When he came to me as Good Mind; The Silent Thought taught me the greatest good so that I might proclaim it.”
  • AVESTA, YASNA –“Just as a man or a woman has known what is truth, so he or she should practice that truth with zeal, and should teach it to those persons who should practise it so, as it is.”
  • AVESTA, YASNA –“Then did I recognize Thee in mind, to be the first and the last, 0 Lord, Father of good thought, when I apprehended Thee in my eye, True creator of Right, the Lord over the actions of life!”
  • AYN RAND –“And what is the state but a servant and a convenience for a large number of people, just like the electric light and the plumbing system? And wouldn't it be preposterous to claim that men must exist for their plumbing, not the plumbing for the men.”
  • AYN RAND –“Censors tend to do what only psychotics do: they confuse reality with illusion.”
  • AYN RAND –“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, m lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.”
  • AYN RAND –“Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority.”

  • AYN RAND –“The question isn’t who is going to let me it’s who is going to stop me.”
  • AYN RAND –“The right to agree with others is not a problem in any society; it is the right to disagree that is crucial. It is the institution of private property that protects and implements the right to disagree...”

  • AYURVASANA –“Do not burn him or utterly consume him, 0 Agni, do not scatter his limbs and his skin! Perfect him, 0 you who survey men's deeds, and send him on to the abode of the Fathers. When you have prepared him, 0 All-Knowing One, then deliver him up to the Fathers, When he arrives in the realm of the spirits he will become a controller of the Gods. The Sun receive your eye, the Wind your spirit! Go, as is your merit, to earth or heaven, or, if that be your lot, to the waters, with your body diffused in the plants of the field.”
  • AYURVEDIC PROVERB –“When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”
  • AYYAPPA PANIKER –“Here lies the body of Mister Paniker who at the end of his panicking days agreed to lie still for a while. It's not known what happened to his soul if indeed he ever had one. He wasn't quite unlike any of us while he lived his flesh to tell the truth often revolted and upset his delicate sensibility Space he could never control to his liking; his sense of time you know wasn't strong either. He had of course in his wallet many a theory the things he could touch however told him a different story All his life he was patiently learning how not to live at all. Who knows? Perhaps, given another chance, he might do a better job of it than before. And you who pass by do not stop here for long but move on quietly to the nearest graveyard that may be waiting for you.”
  • AYYAPPA PANIKER –“What sights have we seen that fail to catch the eye? What songs heard that the ear cannot catch? What unmeasured distances have we traversed? What sins gone through, not encountered in Eden? What pains unknown before have we taken on? We have conceded; let them be whatever “they are. Now that we have learned that life is not meant To be spent on reflections over past sorrows, Please, go on playing nonstop on the santoori, Until the dawn arrives that brings joy, Until Zorba sings on the shores of twilight...”

  • BABAFARID –“I have seen the eyes that lured the world. A trace of kohl they would not bear. And birds, today, have made their nests in them. Why do you roam the jungles with thorns pricking your feet? Your Lord dwells in your heart. And you wander about in search of him. I thought I was alone who suffered. The Sacred Space echoes the cosmic play which is boundless.”
  • BAIDYANATH SARASWATI –“Where did the Universe come from?  The Universe came from Brahmn. What is Brahmn? Brahmn is the universal Self. Is Brahmn the creator of the Universe? No, Brahmn itself is the Universe. How did the Universe start off? The Universe did not start off at any particular time. It is set in eternal cycles of creation, existence and dissolution. My heart could explode with the love I have for you. B-o-o-m! And I could be united with you forever.”
  • BEJAN DARUWALLA –“Lord, I do not weep for myself, No, not I; I have a glimpse of your face As a bashful bride's sideways glance At the man in her life As an old man's faint recall of his mother's moving lullaby lips As the shivering delight In the snowflake's virgin kiss on cheek. Computers, connectivity, Internet, mobiles, atoms, anti-matter, black holes... dharma and karma, F-14 stealth fighters, no tube In this and more, I beat to your blood I dance your tune, Lord. Hillsides are lovely in green once again, and blossoms appear on the trees. Flowers are waking aroused by spring’s kiss, and lilac scent drifts on the breeze. Earth now is bursting with joy and rebirth. Oh, how can a soul fail to sing' after life's winter comes heart-peace and hope. All part of God's promise called spring.”

  • BHAISHRI RAMESH OZA –“This world is full of dualities. If there is happiness in this world then there is also pain and suffering. If there is joy, there is also sorrow the coexistence of such dualities is a natural phenomenon to our life and world. But life is also subject to constant change. Hence no situation remains permanent, it has got to change. Painful situations may prevail for a longer duration but they cannot always remain so, forever. In such conditions only people who have the light of wisdom (Vivek) in their life can bear the vagaries of these dualities. Wise people bear dualities sportingly while others do so grudgingly. • BHIKHU PAREKH –“While patriotism must be evoked, it is important to remember that the Diaspora has its own legitimate interests... India's strength is its cultural universalism and not cultural nationalism. India would be untrue to itself if it ever forgot that it was an open society.”
  • BHUSHUNDI –“The good endure pain in the interest of others, but the evil do so to give others pain. The tender-hearted, like the birch tree, submit to distress — even allow their bark to be torn off—for the good of their neighbors. But the wicked, like the hemp, have their skin Hayed off and perish in agony to be able to torture others. They do harm to others even though they have no purpose of their own to serve. Having destroyed their neighbor’s property they perish themselves, like the hail that melts away to nothing after ruining the crops. The rise of the wicked is a source of calamity to the world. The rise of the good, on the other hand, like that of the sun and the moon, is ever conducive to universal joy The highest merit known to the Vedas is to do no harm; and there is no sin as heinous as speaking ill of others.”

Ordered from Todd Pacific Shipyards, San Pedro, California on 23 January 1978 as part of the FY78 program, Jarrett was laid down on 11 February 1981, launched on 17 October 1981, and commissioned on 2 July 1983. During Desert Storm in 1991, Jarrett was involved in a friendly fire incident with the Iowaclass battleship Missouri. Allegedly, Jarretts Phalanx engaged the chaff fired by Missouri as a countermeasure against two incoming Iraqi Silkworm missiles (also known as a Seersucker). Some stray Phalanx rounds struck Missouri, one of which penetrated a bulkhead and embedded in an interior passageway of the ship. Another round struck the ship on the forward funnel passing completely through it. One sailor aboard Missouri was struck in the neck by some flying shrapnel and suffered minor injuries.
