Can postpartum depression turn into premanent depression
Postpartum Depression occurs in women in the months after they have given birth it is a very serious condition that affects between 8 - 20% of women each and every day. Postpartum depression basically starts off as a light depression and can turn into a very serious condition if not treated. Depending on the persons situation and the way they handle those situations, will determine the severity of the postpartum depression. This condition can strike new mothers as early as 4 weeks after giving birth and can last up to a year later. Even longer if not treated.
The symptoms that come with this condition range from the following restlessness, or excessive sleeping, loss of appetite, mood swings, anger towards the baby, feeling un-connected with others, thoughts of suicide and worthlessness. These are serious symptoms and need to be identified and treated right away.
There is a few steps that should be followed to treat this condition, and the first step is always to call the doctor. Discussing the symptoms with him will determine the severity of the depression. One of the ways to treat postpartum would be to take medication, and for the breast feeding mothers they have medicine that is safe for you and for the baby.
Another step to treating and beating this would be to seek therapy. Talking to a therapist at a local depression treatment center, helps get to the root of the depression. Working through the issues can help the person suffering look to the brighter things in life. They also offer group therapy sessions when a person is going to a depression treatment center, participating in group therapy really lets all people that suffer from this condition know they are not alone.
Most doctors would agree that patients receiving medication for postpartum depression, should seek therapy and or therapy group sessions. A lot of the patients that have sought out both options in their treatment plan have had a higher success rate, and also a higher rate of not falling back into depression.
