Weather Effects on Painting Applications
Weather can dramatically impact your exterior painting job. Heat, sunlight, rain and wind all create conditions that require extra care during the application phase to produce a professional quality coating.
Exterior Painting Issues: Heat and Sunlight
Excessive heat or sunlight can cause a fresh coat of paint to develop blisters known as temperature bubbles. These blisters can pop up relatively quickly following application of the exterior paint. Thick coats of paint are more prone to developing temperature bubbles. Dark paints are also more susceptible to the phenomenon. The remedy for heat blisters is very simple. A scraper is used to smooth off the affected area. Once smoothed over the damage to the coat is repaired.
When a professional painting company does an exterior painting project in the summer heat, they constantly check for temperature bubbles in the coat and take care of the problem as they form, so the blisters have no chance of ruining the coat.
Another sun related exterior painting problem is chalking. This occurs when old stains, paints, or other coatings atomize and dry over time due to the sun's UV radiation. Chalking is only the first part of the problem. The real damage only becomes visible when wind, water, ice, or snow absorbs or washes away the chalk, leaving a patchy or uneven mark on the surface.
Exterior Painting Issues: Moisture
Of course, the sun is not the only harmful element that takes its toll on your exterior painting job or project. Rain, dew, condensation, snow, and ice can all create blisters, stains and peeling. Moisture blisters are typically deeper than a heat blister and can reach all the way down to the base of the coat. These can be slightly harder to repair, which makes prompt fixes a must. Moisture blisters are also somewhat harder to repair because the source of the moisture may be difficult to pinpoint and eliminate.
Of course, other weather phenomena can also radically impact your exterior painting attempts. Winds whipping particle grains, pollen, or other debris can wreak havoc on your paint job. Wind damage over time can also erode the long term quality of a finish.
Getting a high quality finished product requires a painting company with extensive experience dealing with the effects of weathering. Please contact a professional painting contractor for more information about painting weathering effects and suggestions for dealing with environmental damage to exterior painting projects.

On Weathering (Paperback) $44.97 On Weathering illustrates the complex nature of the architectural project by taking into account its temporality, linking technical problems of maintenance and decay with a focused consideration of their philosophical and ethical implications. In a clear and direct account supplemented by many photographs commissioned for this book, Mostafavi and Leatherbarrow examine buildings and other projects from Alberti to Le Corbusier to show that the continual refinishing of the building by natural forces adds to, rather than detracts from, architectural meaning. Their central discovery, that weathering makes the "final" state of the construction necessarily indefinite, challenges the conventional notion of a building`s completeness.By recognizing the inherent uncertainty and inevitability of weathering and by viewing the concept of weathering as a continuation of the building process rather than as a force antagonistic to it, the authors offer alternative readings of historical constructions and potential beginnings for new architectural projects. |

Weathering of Plastics $210 In spite of extensive efforts, material weathering testing still requires improvement. This book presents findings and opinions of experts in material degradation testing. The aim is to improve testing methods and procedures. Materials are presented to show that photochemical degradation rate depends on a combination of environmental factors such as UV radiation, temperature, humidity, rain, stress, and concentration of reactive pollutants. The potential effect of each parameter of degradation on data gathered is discussed based on known results from a long experience in testing. This book contains data obtained in laboratories of the largest manufacturers of UV stabilizers and chemical companies that manufacture durable materials. The book gives details of testing procedures and choice of parameters of exposure which are crucial for obtaining laboratory results correlating with environmental performance of materials. In addition to exposure conditions, the book contains many suggestions on sample preparation and post-exposure testing. The effective use of these methods shortens testing time of materials and determines acceleration rate of testing. The book also gives examples of complete, well-designed weathering experiments which may be used as patterns for selection of parameters and techniques for new studies. The areas of research that still require more attention in future studies are clearly indicated. |

Weathering Winter $11 In winter, when the only things growing seem to be icicles and irritability, what pleasures exist for a gardener or for anyone who lives in a northern climate? In his distinctive daybook, Weathering Winter, Carl Klaus reminds readers that the season of brown twigs and icy gales is just as much a part of the year as when tulips open, tomatoes thrive, and pumpkins color the brown earth. From the first cold snap of late December 1994 to the first outdoor planting of onion sets and radish seeds in mid-March 1995, Klaus kept track of snow falling, birds flocking, soups simmering, gardening catalogs arriving, buds swelling, and seed trays coming to life. |

Weathering Change $70 The Pacific Northwest is known for its diverse, unusual politics. There are thriving gay and lesbian communities and populations of staunchly conservative Christians. Both groups wield political power out of proportion to their numbers and yet both feel beleaguered. How do members of these groups—both community leaders and everyday citizens—perceive the political climates that surround them. This book tells a tale of two Northwestern cities: Seattle, well known nationally for its liberalism, and Spokane, its conservative cousin to the east. Weathering Change characterizes the ways these liberal and conservative environments translate into hostility and hospitality for the Christian conservatives, gay men, and lesbians who live within them. Linneman gives us a firsthand account of how people from both groups think about social change in relation to the media, the public, the government, their communities, and their opposition. Indeed, we gain much needed insight into why Christian conservatives view the progress of the gay and lesbian movement as such a threat. |

Weathering the Storm $59.9 The principal cause of the 1930s depression in Southeast Asia lay outside the region — through a sharp contraction in demand for the region’s major commodity exports. But it had important internal causes too: an oversupply of primary commodities and an increasing scarcity of new agricultural land leading to higher rents and lower wages, rising indebtedness and increasing landlessness. This work thoroughly analyses the pre-war depression. It also looks at the changes in the basic structures of... |

Weathering the World $70 The Asian tsunami in December 2004 was reported on exhaustively all around the world. But this is the first full-length examination of the disaster. Providing an in-depth ethnography of the tsunami and its effects on a fishing village on the coast of Tamil Nadu, India, the author shows how disaster survivors have dealt with the tsunami and worked to regain their confidence in the environment on which they depend for their livelihood. The book testifies to a remarkable local recovery process and demonstrates the survivors’ commitment to restoring a sense of certainty and future possibilities even when faced with disempowering disaster. Furthermore, through its focus on the physicality of disaster, i.e. its particular material character and the environmental dimension of recovery, the book adds new theoretical insight to anthropological studies of disaster that have so far tended to focus more on the politics of disaster than on the materiality of such events. |
