Peco Turnouts

Most model railway hobbyists are critical of their scale model and gauges and most definitely are concerned about their railway tracks. All model trains run particular tracks and a real hobbyist give a lot of attention to his model train tracks to ensure smooth operations of his railway. One must bear in mind that all model train tracks are not the same, maybe similar but never exactly the same. Each scale model operates on a specific model train track.

SECTIONAL TRACK

The sectional track is one of the earliest of its kind and comes in different standard lengths like that of the ubiquitous 9" straight track and the 15", 18"and 22" radii curved tracks. The later tracks, which are known to be the curved tracks are as tight as the 108 feet (33 m) and are found in the live prototype industrial spurs and light rail systems. There's the "flex track" as well, an alternative track that can be bent to a reasonable required shape. Many accurate model train tracks came out with these characteristics enabling hobbyists to create railway systems with a much flexible broader curves.

TYPES OF TRACK

Generally, there are different types of train tracks, as you know by now, there's the straight track, the curved track and the remarkable switch track that separately runs parallel to the main line or main track. It allows trains to continue its operation while other trains arrive and depart. It gives an awesome semblance of a busy railway system. Remarkable, simply just amazing to watch and wonder how these model trains run on these model train tracks.

Model train tracks were earlier produced with brass rail on plastic ties, but as the demands became so complex, manufacturers later offered a variety of standard model train tracks. As so with the advent of the nickel-silver track, stainless steel track and the aluminum track are predominantly made available in market today. With these, it eliminated the problem of corrosion to a minimum caused by tear and wear operations and weather conditions. Bachmann Industries was one of the pioneers putting this innovation into market but later on all other manufacturers followed suit.

In the United States, the sectional, flex and turnout tracks were popularly manufactured by Atlas Model Railroad and they dominated the American market. Widely common in the United Kingdom were the "Insulfrog (insulated frog)", the "electrofrog", flex track and turnouts produced by Peco. The snap-together with integral road bed were also released to accommodate the "Ready-to-Run" kits and the "Shake-the-Box" kits corresponding to the scale model train tracks it required.
