Roller Hockey and Rugby Teams go Head to Head for milk&more; kit Sponsorship Competition

The following teams are in with a sporting chance of winning the competition for sponsorship and branded kits from Dairy crest.

We've shortlisted Herne Bay High School's Key Stage 3 rugby teams and the town's under-15 roller hockey team, and both now need the publics votes to win the prize, worth up to £400.

Bosses at the firm's depot in Military Road, Canterbury are offering the prize to thank customers for their support since launching the milk&more online grocery shopping service last year.

It means milkmen can delivery everything from orange squash to bottles water or half-time snacks online at the click of a mouse.

Parents and team members at Herne Bay Roller Hockey Club's under-15's are celebrating their centenary this year.

Their entry said: "we are proud of being the world's oldest roller hockey team.  Many of our members have fathers, grandfathers and even great-grandfathers who have played in the past.  We have a very dedicated and encouraging group of coaches who always turn up for traingin sessions to pass on their knowledge and experience. They always manage to bring out the best in us and we hope this proves how grateful we are.  If you could consider us for the prize it would really be the icing on our birthday cake."

The team trains on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the pier sports centre in Herne Bay.

Ronan Lindsay, co-director of rugby at Herne Bay High School nominated the Key Stage 3 rugby teams for the prize.

He said: "Many of the students at our school come from socio-economic backgrounds where they find it difficult to buy their own kit for matches, forcing them to wear used PE kit.  As a school we have tried finding kits for these teams, including the RFU and team fundraising.  But many of the players preferred to give any money they would raise to what they called 'people who really need it'."

Rugby is the fastest growing sport in the school and there are five squads, with the under-12s undefeated last year.  Mr Lindsay added: "These are boys for whom rugby is making a real difference.  I feel they deserve this award"
