How Much to Rent in West Hampstead, Greater London?
West Hampstead is a part of Greater London, located in the North West. It is a well connected area, with the following public transport connections:
- West Hampstead Rail
- West Hampstead Thames Link (Kings Cross 6 minutes + connected to Luton and Gatwick Airports)
- Jubilee Line
- Finchley Road Nearby for Further Rail and Tube connections
- Myriad Bus Routes
The main road through the area is called "West End Lane" is very busy and congested, and has a number of restaurants and bars. However just off this lane there are dozens of smaller roads leading into residential areas which are fairly quiet and peaceful. It is an ideal location if you like a peaceful (relatively anyway!) area but also want to be able to get into town in a reasonable amount of time.
Rents in the area are typically GBP500-600 PCM + bills for a double room, GBP900-GBP1000 PCM for sole use of a 1 bedroom flat and GBP1100-GBP1200 for 2 bedrooms. Quality of accommodation is usually good and most accommodation is in "Victorian" style housing arranged over 3-4 floors which is quite pleasing to the eye. Rents fall as you get away from the station into some of the neighbouring cheaper areas such as Cricklewood and Brondesbury.
Famous people to have lived in the area include:
Matt Lucas - actor and comedian. He was the star of Little Britain,
Emma Thompson - comedian, actress, screenwriter, Academy Award-winner. Starred in Love Actually and Nanny McPhee.
Dusty Springfield, popular singer, was born in W.H.
So there you have it!

Rail-Trails West $15.95 In this edition in the popular series, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy presents the best of the West. With 70 rural, suburban, and urban trails threading through 1,050 miles, Rail-Trails West covers 60 trails in California, eight in Arizona, and two in Nevada. Many rail-trails offer escapes from city life, like the Mount Lowe Railway Trail, high above the buzzing Los Angeles basin on a rail line vacationers once took to a mountaintop resort. Others offer the pure sensory thrill of sweeping terrain, like Arizona's 7-mile Prescott Peavine Trail. Still more juxtapose the natural world with the railroad's industrial past, like Nevada's Historic Railroad Hiking Trail, which passes through five massive tunnels to reach Hoover Dam. Every trip has a detailed map, directions to the trailhead, and information about parking, restroom facilities, and other amenities. Many of the level rail-trails are suitable for walking, jogging, bicycling, inline skating, wheelchairs, and horses. |

Rail Band $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Rail Band, first formed in 1970, is one of the most popular musical groups in the history of Malian music; the band was later known as Super Rail Band, Bamako Rail Band or, most comprehensively and formally, Super Rail Band of the Buffet Hotel de la Gare, Bamako. Its fame was built upon the mid20th century craze for latin especially Cuban jazz music which came out of Congo in the 1940s. The Rail Band was one of the first West African acts to combine this mature AfroLatin sound with traditional instruments and styles. In their case, this was built upon the Mande Griot praise singer tradition, along with Bambara and other Malian and Guinean musical traditions. Their distinctive sound came from combining electric guitar and jazz horns with soaring Mandinka and Bamabara lyrical lines, African and western drums, and local instruments such as the kora and the Balafon. At their height of fame in the 1970s, the Rail Band played to sold out venues and even stadia across West Africa, and launched solo careers for many of its members, including the legendary vocalist Salif Keita. Rail Gauge in Hong Kong $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In Hong Kong, the KowloonCanton Railway Corporation (KCRC), which currently running East Rail, West Rail and Light Rail uses 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+1 2 in). The Mass Transit Railway uses 1,432 mm (4 ft 8+3 8 in) gauge, 3 mm ( in) narrower than standard gauge. A new railway line across the Tsing Ma Bridge, an extension to the 1,432 mm gauge Tung Chung Line. This 3 mm difference should cause no more problems than the 4 mm (5 32in) difference causes between Russia and Finland or the former 8 mm (5 16in) difference between Spain and Portugal. Hong Kong Tramways, which has been operating tram service on Hong Kong Island since 1904, uses 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) gauge. The KowloonCanton Railway (now East Rail) was originally partially laid to 2 ft (610 mm) and 3 ft (914 mm) gauge during its construction, and the latter was proposed to be its gauge since the tunnel could only accommodate 3 ft (914 mm) gauge if the line was to be double track throughout. However it was built to standard gauge and was single track, retaining space at places for later expansion. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Knowle and Dorridge Rail Crash $70.1 The Knowle and Dorridge rail crash was a fatal rail crash that occurred at Dorridge railway station in the West Midlands, England, in August 1963. Three people died in the crash after a signalmans error routed a small freight train into the path of an express passenger train which slowed but could not stop before colliding with it. The express was a Birmingham Pullman service travelling from Birmingham Snow Hill to London Paddington, having departed at 1pm. The freight train movement in Dorridge station was a routine shunting manouvre, one that often occurred both before or after the express train had passed through the station. The Pullman was 9 coaches long, and was hauled by an 11 month old diesel hydraulic Class 52 Western locomotive, No. 1040 Western Queen. The freight train was formed of a 20 ton hopper wagon, a pannier tank steam locomotive, a 20 ton brake van, an empty bogie flatcar, and a bogie flatcar loaded with Land Rover vehicles. The crash occurred in fine dry weather, at around 1.10 pm. Quintinshill Rail Disaster $78.07 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Quintinshill rail disaster occurred on 22 May 1915, at Quintinshill, an intermediate signal box (on what is now the West Coast Main Line) with sidings on each side on the Caledonian Railway Main Line (mainly linking Glasgow and London) near Gretna Green in Scotland. The crash involved five trains and killed 226 people. It is the worst rail crash in the United Kingdom in terms of loss of life. The majority of victims were Territorial soldiers from the 7th Battalion, The Royal Scots, known as the Leith Battalion due to the large number of men from that town. It was travelling from Larbert to Liverpool, with the purpose of disparching the troops to Gallipoli on troopships. The crash occurred during World War I when all news was subject to official censorship, so was not widely reported at the time. A trial afterwards convicted two negligent railway workers of having caused the accident. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Ratho Rail Crash $74.88 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Ratho Rail crash occurred on 3 January 1917 and killed 12 people. It occurred near Ratho Station in Scotland when an express collided with a light engine in stormy weather. Just west of the station lay Queensferry Junction where the line from Dalmeny via Kirkliston (now lifted) joined from the north. A train from Dalmeny came to a stand opposite the junction signalbox. The signalman had intended to keep it there until the 16:18 express from Edinburgh to Glasgow had passed. However he did not inform the driver and there was no fixed signal to hold him, instead a system of handsignals was in use. The engine uncoupled and began to move towards the main line without his instructions. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F.
