The Top 10 Railroading Museums in the Southeastern United States

For the past year I've been compiling a list of Railroading Museums for my model railroading website.  These museums all look like fantastic places to visit, but what are the most popular?   I'll continue with this list for the Southeastern region of the United States.  The Southeastern States are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The most popular railroading museums (based on online chatter) in the Southeast are:

Museums not making my top 10 were South Carolina Railroad Museum in Winnsboro, South Carolina; West Florida Railroad Museum in Milton, Florida; Lancaster and Chester Railway Museum in Lancaster, South Carolina; Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia; North Florida Railway Museum in Green Cove Springs, Florida; McComb Railroad Museum in McComb, Mississippi; Roundhouse Railroad Museum in Savannah, Georgia; Bluegrass Railroad Museum in Versailles, Kentucky; Casey Jones Railroad Museum in Water Valley, Mississippi. So a great mix of states with five Southern States getting attractions in the top 10.

I guess it is no surprise that tourism mecca Florida has so many museums and that they certainly do seem to be popular.  Also fantastic to see that Alabama and North Carolina placed more than once in the top ten, with Alabama grabbing the number one spot!

I compiled this list by searching for the railroading museums listed on a number of search engines and ranking them by the number of web pages, discussion forums, photos, videos, etc that are available online.

They have the ability to customise their own train liveries with logos and colour schemes. Another feature of Railroads! is the scenario and map editor, enabling - you guessed it - players to create their own maps and scenarios. It is also possible for gamers to build their dream train layout in Train Table Mode, or challenge historical giants like J.P. Morgan, Cornelius Vanderbilt and others in single-player scenarios. Sid Meier's Railroads! has a great multiplayer element, with ruthless real-time LAN and Internet play. Whether you prefer cooperative team play or taking on allcomers on your own, you certainly won't be disappointed with the fantastic multiplayer features that are included in this title from 2K Games.
