Gold Coast In Australia
Once a sleepy holiday outpost, Queensland's Gold Coast in Australia has grown to dazzling proportions and now attracts more than three million visitors annually. And this splendid stretch of coast well deserves its glittering name, it shines both day and night and basks in the glory of being the most sought after holiday spots on the eastern seaboard. With an average temperature of 24 degrees celcius, the days spent here guarantee hours and hours of wonderful daylight to enjoy everything this splendid area has to offer. Just a short step from the NSW border and an hour's drive south of Brisbane and you are right in the heart of Australia's playground, a sophisticated stretch of towering apartment blocks, a variety of hotels, resorts and motels of excellent service and standards, state of the art plazas and shopping malls, wonderful restaurants, wildlife sanctuaries and theme parks.
The busy towns of Tweed heads and Coolangatta are the southern gateway to the Gold Coast, sitting on opposite headlands at the mouth of the Tweed River. Coolangatta Airport jets visitors to the coast from all major interstate cities to enjoy the benefits of this sophisticated yet unspoilt stretch of Australian coastline. Currumbin is the next town north, with sparkling surf beaches and Currumbin Creek which is host to all those who like to play around in boats. North of Currumbin are Pacific and Palm Beaches and then Burleigh Heads, the halfway point between Coolangatta and Southport. Burleigh Heads is a tranquil holiday hideaway that is close enough to the bright lights and razzle dazzle of the Gold Coast to reach if the peace and quiet get too much for you.
The Gold Coast Highway takes you then to Miami, Nobby's and Mermaid. Broadbeach is the next stop, internationally famous for the spectacular Conrad Jupiter's Casino. Next, swoop into Surfers Paradise. Surfers is a town devoted to the tourist market. The elegant towering skyline is silhouetted with opulent, state of the art architectural beauties that stand sentinel along the coast.

Mega Disasters East Coast Tsunami $17.18 Rated: NASynopsis: EAST COAST TSUNAMI examines the possibility of such a catastrophe, an event that could be provoked by a volcanic eruption off the coast of Africa. Experts investigate previous occurrences—including the giant tsunami recorded in New Guinea in 1888—and future possibilities, such as the collapse of one volcano in the Canary Islands that could trigger waves of over 900 meters hurtling towards the coastal US. In such a case, a North American city on the eastern seaboard would have no more than nine hours to evacuate before four-story waves inundated the area, leaving behind a massive wake of destruction. |
