Marie Railway ( Soo Line ). The 2719 was used to haul the Soo Lines last steampowered train, on a June 21, 1959, roundtrip excursion between Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Ladysmith, Wisconsin. The 2719 was built in May, 1923 in Schenectady, New York. It was one of 6 H23 Pacific class steam locomotives built for the Soo Line. It operated until the mid1950s when it was overhauled and put into storage. It was brought out of retirement to haul the last steam trains on Soo Lines tracks in 1959. Having acquired Americas first Mikado (282) type when it merged the Bismarck, Great Falls and Washburn Railway in 1904, it was eight years before the Soo Line ordered a 282 of its own. Ten locomotives were ordered from the American Locomotive Company, and built by their Schenectady, New York plant in 1913. The locomotives became the L1 class and were used for powering time freights system wide on both the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie, and Wisconsin Central. They were assisted in that role by the 1920 arrival of the 25 L2 and L20 class Mikados in 1920, but were bumped in to lesser roles with the arrival of the 21 N20 class 482 Mountains in 19261930. The Soo Line High Bridge is a steel deck arch bridge over the St. Croix River between Stillwater, Minnesota and Somerset, Wisconsin. It was designed by bridge architect C.A.P. Turner and built by the American Bridge Company. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge was the second bridge on a Wisconsin Central Railway line that connected Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin with Minneapolis, Minnesota. The line was originally built in 1884. The crossing of the St. Croix River was difficult for the railway, since the original bridge across the river was very low and trains had to contend with a steep grade on either side of the river. This made it necessary to use helper engines and to make trains shorter. In 1909, the Wisconsin Central Railway built a higher bridge over the river. Soo River $60.54 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Soo River is a tributary of the Green River in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains in British Columbia, Canada, joining that river just north of the Resort Municipality of Whistler. Approximately 35km in length, its origin is on the south flank of the Pemberton Icefield and its course is generally eastward from there to the Green River valley, although upon reaching that valley it runs north for 3.5km roughly parallel to the Green before joining it. For much of its course, known as the Soo Valley, it forms a serpentine marshland until reaching a short canyon before entering the valley of the Green River. Heavily logged over the years, the valley is accessible by rough dirt road. It is a popular crosscountry skiing area in winter, partly because its middle reaches are accessible via trails from the Emerald Estates neighbourhood of Whistler.
