Double-pane windows treated with a special coating known as low-e will reduce the quantity of heat in summer months. Be mindful when buying low emissivity windows, because in the southern states the coating must be applied to the outside of the inside pane of glass and in the northern states it must be on the inside surface of the outside glass. This is to retain heat during the winter and keep heat out during the summer. Using the proper windowpane will save you utility costs, protect your upholstery from fading and be easier to clean.
