An Overview Of Steam Cleaners
A steam cleaner can be used for cleaning a wide variety of surfaces, making it one of the most versatile cleaning machines on the market. However, vapor steam cleaners are not ideal for cleaning delicate, heat sensitive surfaces due to the superheated steam they emit. The output temperature can rise up to 360°F. It is unlikely for any delicate surfaces to survive the exposure to such high temperature.
Putting this fact aside, steam cleaner offers diversified cleaning capabilities. One can use these machines to clean floors, window glass, remove stains from wooden and tiled surfaces, and spot clean carpets. Though, it is important to understand the types of steam cleaning machines available on the market before learning further about their uses.
Vapor Steam Cleaner Varieties
One can find many categories of these machines, including a floor steam cleaner, portable steam cleaner, and industrial steam cleaner. A floor steam cleaner is used to clean floors, walls, and other tiled surfaces. A portable steam cleaner is a lightweight, portable machine useful for applications requiring mobility. An industrial steam cleaner is a powerful cleaning machine boasting simultaneous vacuum extraction, used mainly for more demanding industrial and commercial cleaning jobs.
While the names of these machines indicate differences in terms of application, their main functionality remains the same.
How Steam Cleaning Machines Work
Steam cleaning systems eject dry steam (steam with less than 5 percent water content) onto surfaces. The super hot output, at temperatures of up to 360°F, softens dirt and other residues and weekends the bond between the dirt and the surface. The softened residues must then be removed by wiping or with simultaneous extraction, a feature of the latest systems boasting an attached vacuum.
One can find a number of useful features included with modern steam cleaning machines. The following are some of the best features too look for:
Automatic Refilling
Conventional steam cleaning machines contain only one pressurized tank for boiling and refilling water. That means the cleaning process has to be paused to refill the tank once all the water has been used. This requires operators to shut down the machine, refill the water, and the reheat the system. However, today's best machines have an automatic refilling capability.
These systems contain a separate tank for refilling, which connects to the boiler tank. When the water level in the boiler tank becomes low, the water automatically transfers to the boiler tank from the refilling tank. Machines with an automating refilling option are useful for cleaning large buildings or handling continuous applications in commercial and industrial settings.
Anti Microbial Technology
Steam cleaning machines with anti-bacterial technology are useful in eliminating germs and bacteria. Without this capability, steam cleaning systems may boast germ-killing abilities, but these claims are often false. While high steam temperatures can kill some bacteria, only machines with anti-microbial technology can kill up to 99.9% of all bacteria and harmful microorganisms. Machines equipped with this technology are suitable for cleaning hotels, restaurants, and hospitals.
Gum Removal Technology
Chewing gum residue is both an embarrassment as well as a health hazard in educational institutions, restaurants, and other public places. If the gum is not removed in time, it remains there for years as an eyesore. Some of the latest steam cleaning products contain a special technology that makes the removal of chewing gum deposits easier by combining the power of steam, vacuum extraction, gum removal solution, and special gum tools. These machines are capable of removing even hardened, old gum deposits, as well.

Steam Distillation $60.54 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Steam distillation is a special type of distillation for temperature sensitive materials like natural aromatic compounds. Many organic compounds tend to decompose at high sustained temperatures. Separation by normal distillation would then not be an option, so water or steam is introduced into the distillation apparatus. By adding water or steam, the boiling points of the compounds are depressed, allowing them to evaporate at lower temperatures, preferably below the temperatures at which the deterioration of the material becomes appreciable. If the substances to be distilled are very sensitive to heat, steam distillation can also be combined with vacuum distillation. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 68 Publication Date: 2010/07/29 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.00 x 0.16 inches |

CHAIRMAN fF THE TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF SHEFFIELD AS A TRIBUTE TO HIS LONG AND VALUED SERVICES IN PROMOTING THE STUDY OF SCIENCE AS APPLIED TO INDUSTRY THIS BOOK IS INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR PREFACE THIS book is written as a sequel to the authors elementary book on Steam. It was prepared in the first instance as notes for the second-year engineering students in this college, and deals, in as simple a form as possible, with those branches of the subject which are of fundamental importance to a sound knowledge of steam-engine design and management. Modern students of steam engineering have a great advantage over their predecessors, in possessing such a wealth of recorded practical experience as appears in the Proceedings of the Engineering Institu tions, as well as in the Technical Journals, and the writer has to express his personal indebtedness to all these sources ofinformation in the preparation of this book. The assistance received is acknowledged, as far as possible, throughout. Special attention has been given to the subject of the heat quantities involved in the generation and use of steam. For this purpose the temperature-entropy diagram has been used, and its applications in the solution of a number of ordinary everyday problems exemplified. In this connection, as well as for many beautiful graphical methods of illustration now employed by engineers, students and teachers of the subject are greatly indebted to the work of Mr. J. Macfarlane Gray, Capt. H. Eiall Sankey, the late P. W. Willans, and many others. The writer desires to express his personal indebtedness to Capt. Sankey for his kindness in supplying him with copies of his temperature - entropy chart, which appears for the first time, as Plate I. of this book. This chart has gone through an interesting process of evolution since the occasion when Mr. J. Macfarlane Gray read his paper at the Paris meeting of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in July, 1889, viii PREFACE. c On the Rationalization of Regnaults Steam Experiments, describing and explaining the use of the steam and water lines of the temperature entropy chart. Since that time Capt. Sankey has add |

Irish Railways - Twilight Of Steam In Ireland (DVD) $6.93 More film from the camera of John Laird, which recalls the last years of steam traction in the 1960s on Ireland's railways. A royalty from the sale of this video will be donated to the Railway Preservation Society Of Ireland. Twilight of Steam in Ulster features a further selection of the films made by John ,Laird, who set out in the early and mid-1960s to record as much as he could of the remaining steam workings on Ireland's 5ft 3in standard gauge railways. Whilst the diesels ruled unchallenged on the CIE system in the Irish Republic, a considerabe variety of steam locomotives and steam workings could still be experienced on the railway network in Northern Ireland, which was run by the Ulster Transport Authority. This programme looks at some of the workings frequently entrusted to steam and some of the lines where steam was still very active. Along section devoted should be to the loose coupled steam hauled goods trains which would soon pass into histroy. The dock lines in Belfast are explored and in a country where industrial railays were rare, a special sequence features the pair of 5ft 3in gauge Pecket saddletanks, which were employed by Courtaulds at Carrickfergus in County Antrim. Other aspects of steam portrayed are special workings and excursions, steam hauled surburban services and the use of steam locomotives on the branch from Goraghwood to Warrenport and the Great Northern line to Derry - the two line which closed in 1965 and which are still mourned by railway enthusiasts. This programme completes John Laird's trilogy on transport in Ulster in teh 1960s. Along with the companion volumes Irsih Railways 2 - The Swansong of Steam in Ulster, and Trolleybus Days in Belfast, both published by Midland and Online, John Laird has made a significant contribution to the recording of the recent social history of the province, and provided a wealth of pleasure and nostalgia for all of those interested in transport. |

Renowned for its famous named trains such as the "Flying Scotsman", the "Silver Jubilee" and the "Queen of Scots", amoungst others, the LNER built a succession of legendary Pacific steam locomotives to the designs of Sir Gresley, many of which were named after racehorses By contrast, the LNER's railways in East Anglia were built to server a land which has changed little over the years and the railways reflected this timeless appeal. In this programme we see, in images recorded over the last decade, the survivors of the LNER era still at work on the lines for which they were built, ranging from London's King's Cross to Retfod, and across the Fens into deepest Norfolk on the North sea coast at Weybourn, all still evoking the Glory of Steam in East Anglia and Eastern England Running time - 55mins approx. |
