Facing The War Times - 15 Points To Stay Cautious
A wise man once said, in order to have peace, you must prepare for the war. But looking at the footages of the wars happening across the globe, we get shivers. We all have also read about the wars of old times and the destruction they faced after them.
Truly, war is indeed the last thing one could wish for. But, as civilians the occurring of such an event is beyond our control.
All that we can do is prepare ourselves for such an emergency, just like we do it for the natural calamities.
Here are some easy tips for the preparations you can make to face a war situation in the city or nation.
1. Make a bag of all necessities that you might just pick and run in case of an emergency.
2. The items in this bag include:
a. Food – Prefer non perishable food. Also, keep refreshing this food in the kit form time to time.
b. Water – Undoubtedly it is a necessity for any human being. But, make sure to refresh the water in the kit, else it might make you ill and add to your problems.
c. Pieces of cloth – These would be very useful to cover your mouth & nose.
d. Sunglasses – This would help you cover your eyes, that is very essential while bombarding.
3. The government also makes several war emergency plans. They make the underground facilities that are used in times of crisis.
4. These underground services contain grain silos, medical stockpiles, etc. The injured civilians & soldiers are generally housed in these underground facilities only.
5. The United States Government has made various underground centers in the big cities that can be used during the war emergency situations. For instance, the underground facilities near all major railroads.
6. Just like the government keeps a stock of guns & ammo in spare for the war times, they should make sure to equip themselves with some machineries to help the civilians in the war times like mobile refineries, truck transportable bridges, water purification systems, mobile decontamination services, etc.
7. Also amenities like petroleum supply are also especially reserved for the times of war.
8. Next, it is the duty of the government to organize effective co-operation amidst the different civil services, like the police, fire services, healthcare service, other public utility providers, etc. They are all expected to work in tandem to ensure the civilians' protection as much as possible.
9. Sometimes, some able bodies are also requested to undergo some special training programs in order to help in protection of the civilians.
10. Most of the war related preparations involve the central role of the national government & international security institutions.
11. In times of war, the citizens have no choice but to follow the way on which the government leads them.
12. Only a collective effort can ensure survival to some extent.
13. Probably one of the most effective ways of preparing for the war is disseminating the information effectively & rapidly. The tips and information about self-protection must be disseminated among the public. With this, concerned international authorities would also be able to make a benefit.
14. All in all, a large pool full of information resources would help both the parties, and allow them to optimistically come down to some agreement even before the war eventually could break out.
15. As the technology is soaring new heights, human beings have excelled in making weapons for their own destruction. With the latest technologies on the run, and weapons ready to wipe away a whole continent within a few minutes, the latest nuclear, chemical & biological weapons would define the course of war. Hence, it is becoming all the more difficult to prepare for the war emergencies.

The Emergency State $14.99 America is trapped in a state of war that has consumed our national life since before Pearl Harbor. Over seven decades and several bloody wars, Democratic and Republican politicians alike have assembled an increasing complicated—and increasingly ineffective—network of security services. Trillions of tax dollars have been diverted from essential domestic needs while the Pentagon created a worldwide web of military bases, inventing new American security interests where none previously existed. Yet this pursuit has not only damaged our democratic institutions and undermined our economic strength—it has fundamentally failed to make us safer. In The Emergency State , senior New York Times journalist David C. Unger reveals the hidden costs of America’s obsessive pursuit of absolute national security, showing how this narrow-minded emphasis on security came to distort our political life. Unger reminds us that in the first 150 years of the American republic the U.S. valued limited military intervention abroad, along with the checks and balances put in place by the founding fathers. Yet American history took a sharp turn during and just after World War II, when we began building a vast and cumbersome complex of national security institutions and beliefs. Originally designed to wage hot war against Germany and cold war against the Soviet Union, our security bureaucracy has become remarkably ineffective at confronting the elusive, non-state sponsored threats we now face. The Emergency State traces a series of missed opportunities—from the end of World War II to the election of Barack Obama—when we could have paused to rethink our defense strategy and didn’t. We have ultimately failed to dismantle our outdated national security state  because both parties are equally responsible for its expansion. While countless books have exposed the damage wrought by George W. Bush's "war on terror," Unger shows it was only the natural culmination of decades of bipartisan emergency state logic—and argues that Obama, along with many previous Democratic presidents, has failed to shift course in any meaningful way. The Emergency State: America’s Pursuit of Absolute Security At All Costs  reveals the depth of folly into which we’ve fallen, as Americans eagerly trade away the country’s greatest strengths for a fleeting illusion of safety. Provocative, insightful, and refreshingly nonpartisan, The Emergency State is the definitive untold story of how America became this vulnerable—and how it can build true security again. |

Thinking in an Emergency $21.57 For sixty years, modern democratic governments have undermined democracy and increased executive power by invoking the idea of emergency. They have bypassed constitutional provisions concerning presidential succession, the declaration of war, the use of torture, civilian surveillance, and the arrangements for nuclear weapons. In the desire for swift national action, we citizens devalue thinking and ignore ways to check government power, plunging our countries into a precarious state between monarchy and democracy. Drawing on the work of philosophers, neuroscientists, and artists, Elaine Scarry proves decisively that thinking and rapid action are compatible. Practices that we dismiss as mere habit and protocol instead represent rigorous, effective modes of thought that we must champion in times of crisis. Scarry's bold claim on behalf of fundamental democratic principles will enliven and enrich the ongoing debate about leadership. |

State of Emergency $9.99 Pat Buchanan is sounding the alarm. Since 9/11, more than four million illegal immigrants have crossed our borders, and there are more coming every day. Our leaders in Washington lack the political will to uphold the rule of law. The Melting Pot is broken beyond repair, and the future of our nation is at stake. In this important book, Pat Buchanan reveals that, slowly but surely, the great American Southwest is being reconquered by Mexico. These lands---which many Mexicans believe are their birthright---are being detached ethnically, linguistically, and culturally from the United States by a deliberate policy of the Mexican regime. This is the "Aztlan Plot" for "La Reconquista," the recapture of the lands lost by Mexico in the Texas War of Independence and Mexican-American War. Comparing the immigrant invasion of America from across the Mexican border---and of Europe from across the Mediterranean---to the barbarian invasions that ended the Roman Empire, the author writes with passion and conviction that we have begun the final chapter of the Death of the West. Unless the invasion is halted now, Buchanan argues, by midcentury America will be a country unrecognizable to our parents, the Third World dystopia that Theodore Roosevelt warned against when he said we must never let America become a "polyglot boardinghouse" for the world. President Bush's failure to halt the invasion and secure America's border, Buchanan writes, is a dereliction of constitutional duty that, in other times, would have called forth articles of impeachment. In the final chapter, "Last Chance," he lays out a sweeping immigration reform and border security plan, which, he contends, if not pursued, means George W. Bush's legacy will be to have lost for America a Southwest that was the legacy of Sam Houston, Andrew Jackson, and James K. Polk. With an estimated ten to fifteen million "illegals" already here and tens of millions more poised to pour across our borders, few books could be as timely---or important---as State of Emergency . It is essential reading for all Americans. |

The Emergency State (Compact Disc) $120.12 In The Emergency State, leading global affairs commentator David C. Unger reveals the hidden costs of America`s obsessive pursuit of absolute national security. In the decades since World War II, presidents from both parties have assumed broad war-making powers never intended by the Constitution and intervened abroad to preserve our credibility rather than our security, while trillions of tax dollars have been diverted from essential domestic needs to the Pentagon.
